About Us

The Psychology News Center is a service of Social Psychology Network (SPN), a nonprofit educational organization with over 1,500 members from more than 100 countries. The mission of SPN is to promote peace, social justice, and sustainable living through public education, research, and the advancement of psychology. Accordingly, news stories posted in the Psychology News Center focus mainly on three general topics: (1) psychology and neuroscience, (2) peace and social justice, and (3) sustainable living and climate change.

Items appearing in the Psychology News Center come from news feeds maintained by the BBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, Reuters, USA Today, The Guardian, Science Daily, Medical News Today, and many other organizations. Each news item is reviewed by one or more SPN staff members prior to being distributed through Psychology-News.org, Social Psychology Network, and social media outlets such as:

About Social Psychology Network

SPN was founded in 1996 at Wesleyan University by Professor Scott Plous. Since then, its pages have been viewed 364 million times, and it has been endorsed by more than 20 leading psychology organizations, including the Society of Experimental Social Psychology, the European Association of Social Psychology, the Asian Association of Social Psychology, the Society of Australasian Social Psychologists, the British Psychological Society Social Psychology Section, the Canadian Psychological Association Social and Personality Section, the Psychology Coalition of Accredited NGOs at the United Nations, and a dozen divisions of the American Psychological Association.

Since its establishment, SPN has received funding from the National Science Foundation, Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Society of Experimental Social Psychology, Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, European Association of Social Psychology, American Psychological Association, David and Carol Myers Foundation, National Cancer Institute, McGraw-Hill Higher Education, Worth Publishers, Psychology Press, and several other sources.
